Thanks Karlie! Volunteers Score Chance to Work New York Fashion Week
Posted April 20th, 2017

A supermodel, a high-profile fashion show, and an amazing effort by Siba student volunteers – just another day in the life of our Retail Management/Fashion Merchandising students. Supermodel and former St. Louisan Karlie Kloss recently debuted her clothing line for Express on March 30 at the Pageant and several Siba students worked behind the scenes to help produce the show. Among the volunteers was senior, Breonna Williams, pictured below with Karlie.

Breonna interned as a wardrobe stylist for the runway, getting to work one-on-one with celebrity stylist Karla Welch (pictured below), who has dressed Justin Bieber and Olivia Wilde. Breonna and her fellow volunteers also worked closely with organizers from Navia Vision, the New York-based company responsible for putting on the show. Siba student volunteers assisted with shopping for accessories to be worn by the models, styling, and backstage production the evening of the show.

Karla Welch and Navia Vision were so impressed with Siba volunteers that they have been offered an opportunity to intern under Karla Welch this summer and participate in New York Fashion Week!!

Breonna credits her confidence and performance at the Express show to the experience she’s gained at previous events. “Every fashion show or event that Siba gets invited to, I volunteer or intern the event. Building a fashion show is hard work.” And the Karlie for Express show was no different, “I learned so much with the [Navia Vision] production team.”

While Breonna already works in the fashion industry as an Assistant Manager in retail, she aspires to one day be a celebrity stylist, “…because I love to see the look on people’s faces when you help them pick out an outfit that makes them feel good inside.” We can’t wait to see Breonna reach her next goal, because if her record so far is any indication, she’s clearly destined for great things. A round of applause for Breonna and all of our volunteers for once again representing Siba so well in the community!
